The Standard 6-Day Rwenzori Trek offers a rapid but rewarding ascent to Margherita Peak (5,109m), the highest point of the Rwenzori Mountains. Trekkers pass through lush montane forests, bamboo zones, and alpine moorlands, experiencing some of East Africa’s most dramatic landscapes.
This route is ideal for experienced trekkers who want to reach the summit efficiently while still enjoying scenic valleys, waterfalls, and unique afro-alpine vegetation.

Best Time to Visit
The Rwenzori Mountains are best trekked during drier periods to reduce risks of slippery trails and heavy rainfall.

Day 1: Kasese / Bunagana → Nyabitaba Hut Arrive at Rwenzori Base and trek through lush forest to **Nyabitaba Hut** for overnight. Hiking Time: 4–5 hours |

Day 2: Nyabitaba → John Matte Hut Ascend through bamboo and moorlands to reach **John Matte Hut**, passing waterfalls and alpine vegetation. Hiking Time: 5–6 hours |

Day 3: John Matte → Bujuku Hut Trek across high moorlands, glacial valleys, and streams to **Bujuku Hut**, preparing for summit day. Hiking Time: 5–6 hours |
