The **Sasa Trail** is the shortest and most direct route to **Wagagai Peak (4,321m)**, the highest point of Mount Elgon. Located on the **Uganda side**, the trail is known for its steep initial ascent through farmland, dense forest, and bamboo zones before reaching the open moorland of the mountain.

Although it is the quickest route to the summit, the Sasa Trail rewards trekkers with spectacular views, unique vegetation zones, and a chance to explore Mount Elgon’s vast volcanic caldera.

4 Day Sasa Trail Itinerary

Day 1: Budadiri β†’ Sasa River Camp

Start the trek from **Budadiri trailhead** and climb steeply through farmland and forest before reaching the bamboo zone. Continue to **Sasa River Camp** for overnight stay.

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Day 2: Sasa River Camp β†’ Mude Camp

Ascend through bamboo forest and giant heather before entering the open moorland. Continue trekking across scenic ridges to reach **Mude Camp**.

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Day 3: Mude Camp β†’ Wagagai Peak β†’ Mude Camp

Early morning hike across the caldera to reach **Wagagai Peak (4,321m)**, the highest point of Mount Elgon. After enjoying summit views, descend back to **Mude Camp** for overnight.

Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
Day 4: Mude Camp β†’ Budadiri

Descend through the bamboo and forest zones back to **Budadiri trailhead**, where the trek ends.
